I have been in the healthcare business for over 40 years. Now I am helping others in risk management as I myself approach the "Medicare Age".
Given that, there are a ton of unanswered questions about Medicare and it's related programs that should be answered before you make your decisions about which plan options you should take ... or pass on.
But who can help with this? Who can help you understand and navigate the various Medicare options? Who can you trust?
While working with a knowledgable insurance broker is always a great idea, many people don't have a regular insurance broker to help them understand their options. Many do, after having worked with them for many years previously on their personal, business and professional risk management portfolios.
Regardless, it's often a great idea to have an independent resource that can help you become better informed to make your Medicare-related required decisions more intelligently.
State Health Insurance Program
For that, using a volunteer trained individual from a reputable source could be just what the "doctor" ordered... For that, a program called the "State Health Insurance Assistance Program" (SHIPs for short), may be the resource that you are looking for.
Volunteers go through an approved training to help them become sufficiently knowledgable about the Medical options and decisions. Their job is to help understand your needs and to guide you to the necessary information to make the right decision for yourself.
This resource may just be the right one that you need to help you through this often confusing, but always necessary transition time.
Check them out and see if it really is what the doctor ordered...

By the way...SHIPs is also a great opportunity if YOU are retired and looking to provide some meaningful volunteer work. Contact them for more details and see if this is right for you!
